Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF) allows travelers to drastically reduce their CO₂e footprint by replacing regular fossil jet fuel with sustainable fuels. Emissions can be reduced by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels.

Neste is the world's leading producer of SAF, and its product is - unlike many other developers of SAF - available today. Since Neste MY SAF is a drop-in fuel and thus compatible with existing engines, it does not require additional infrastructure to be used by airlines and airports.

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is produced with 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials. The renewable raw materials are sustainably sourced from selected partners giving transparency over their entire supply chain. Suppliers are, furthermore, expected to uphold Neste's supplier code of conduct to ensure that suppliers commit to protecting biodiversity and fighting deforestation, as well as to protect human rights.

The SAF meets the ASTM 7566 requirements and is ready to be blended with conventional jet fuel: the raw materials are pre-treated to clean them of impurities. Oxygen atoms are removed with additional hydrogen through a hydrodeoxygenation process. Sulfur and nitrogen are similarly removed. The hydrocarbons are subsequently isomerized to fine-tune the properties of SAF.

Neste MY SAF reduces CO₂e emissions over its entire life-cycle by up to 80% compared to regular fossil jet fuel as calculated with life-cycle assessment methodologies such as CORSIA. Remaining emissions occur, for instance, in the transport and distribution of the product. Due to the hydrodeoxygenation process, SAF use also results in lower actual particulate emissions during combustion than conventional jet fuel due to a cleaner combustion process.

Neste currently has an annual SAF production capability of 1 million tons of SAF. This will grow to 1.5 million tons of SAF per year in early 2024 and 2.2 million tons in 2026. By purchasing Neste MY SAF, customers not only reduce CO₂e emissions but in the long-term help to scale the manufacturing of sustainable fuels, enable lower production costs, and ultimately allow a larger group of customers to reduce their CO₂e emissions.
