The primary objective of the program is to disseminate water purification systems to low-​income households and institutions such as schools, starting in Uganda. Carbon finance is used to give households access to the clean water technologies thereby improving the livelihoods and health conditions of thousands of people and at the same time reducing CO2 emissions by reducing the consumption of non-​renewable firewood and charcoal.

In the first monitoring period (1 year and 8 months), approximately 30,700 Credits were issued. In parallel, a volume of 59,102,627 liters of safe drinking water was provided by the project. The calculation is based on an average amount of drinking water per household per day of 19.6 liters, the number of households reached and the usage days per device. Hence, approximately 1,925 liters of clean drinking water are delivered per Credit in addition to the reduction of 1 tonne of carbon dioxide.
